About This Spot

Stepping into Afghan Cuisine Restaurant & Takeaway on Wilmslow Road feels like arriving at a cherished neighborhood gathering spot where warmth and familiarity quietly take center stage. The hum of friendly chatter blends with the soft clatter of plates, creating a lively yet inviting atmosphere that unfolds across two cozy floors. It’s a place where families, friends, and solo diners alike settle into the rhythm of genuine hospitality and relaxed conversation.

The pace here is unhurried but purposeful—food arrives with a comforting steadiness that speaks of care and attention rather than rush. The air is gently fragrant with the rich, earthy aromas of charcoal-grilled kebabs and freshly baked bread, teasing the senses and inviting curiosity about what’s to come.

Rather than overwhelming you with choice, the menu feels like a well-loved story told in a handful of dishes made with intention and familiarity. Every plate carries the kind of thoughtful craftsmanship that builds quietly on tradition, whether it’s the tender, spiced kebabs resting on a bed of fragrant Afghan rice or the delicate folds of freshly steamed mantu. The bread, often praised, offers an irresistible texture and warmth, making each bite a small moment of comfort.

What lingers most beyond the food itself is the sense of continuity—the feeling that this is a place where tastes are preserved through years, where recipes are more than instructions, and where returning guests find the same welcoming flavors that become a reassuring constant in their lives.

In essence, Afghan Cuisine isn’t just about a meal—it’s about sharing space with people who respect the quiet joy of good food and familiar faces. It’s the kind of spot that invites you to slow down, savor the moment, and leave with a small, satisfied smile that carries you until next time.

Went in for a kobeda, but ended up buying a mixed grill with chicken. Note: cash only or bank transfer. The place was heaving but our food arrived pretty quick and boy it was banging. In fact it was so good I forgot to take any pictures! The meat was tender, perfectly spiced and was perfectly accompanied by the massive naan. The only thing that let it down was the chilli sauce, I personally prefer the thick orange type served by Rusholme Chippy, this was more of an Asian style. Nonetheless still highly recommended.

Absolutely delicious food! Seems a simple menu at first but everything that comes out is amazing and crafted with love. The bread is exquisite and the Afghan rice is beautiful. Already looking forward to going back and eating here again!

This Afghan restaurant never disappoints. The quality of the food is exceptional, with rich flavors and perfectly balanced spices. The hospitality and atmosphere make the experience even more enjoyable. Truly one of the finest places to experience authentic Afghan cuisine. Highly recommended for anyone looking for outstanding food and service.

Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars As a Level 7 Google Local Guide, I recently visited Afghan Cuisine on Wilmslow Road in Rusholme, Manchester. The restaurant boasts a warm, inviting atmosphere spread across two floors, perfect for family gatherings and groups. The food quality remains impressive. The naan and roti are consistently fluffy and delicious, earning them a 5 out of 5. The grilled chicken, or faraham, is tasty and well-prepared, though sometimes a bit overcooked, bringing it to a 4 out of 5. The Afghani pilau, their signature dish, is still flavorful, though it has slightly changed in quality over time. It’s still good, but could benefit from returning to its previous standard, earning it a 4 out of 5. The kabida is delicious and flavorful, deserving a 5 out of 5 for taste. However, the portion size has become a bit smaller recently, which is a minor downside. One small letdown was that the mint tea, usually available, was not on the menu during this visit. Previously, it was a nice touch, and hopefully, it returns soon. The decor is cozy but could benefit from a modern update to attract more customers. The upstairs area provides ample space for families, making it a comfortable environment. The washroom could use some improvement, as it’s a bit tight, but overall, the place is well-maintained and welcoming. The staff is generally friendly, though there’s room for improvement in communication, especially regarding extra charges. In conclusion, Afghan Cuisine remains a fantastic spot with delicious food and a cozy atmosphere.

The qabli pilau rice was delicious and I would highly recommend - the meat was cooked well and tender. The kobeda and Nan were also fresh and tasty. An amazingly delicious Qabli Rice every time we eat here. We've been dining at Afghan Cuisine for over 12 years and the recipe has remained unchanged. It's always busy here! Service is pretty quick. I recommend coming here for authentic and hearty food. Yes the prices have increased lately but it's worth dining here every now and then!

Loved their meat quality in lamb …. Very young aged meat with good aroma … Lamb chops are delicious , lamb kababs were mouth watering along with their kabuli Pullao , chicken needs improvement as it was little less cooked ….
